[gdal-dev] Preferred DXF format version for reading

Hi,

We are working on a data processing pipeline which has a DXF import filter
(read-only). 

The documentation for the dxf driver says:
"OGR supports reading most versions of AutoCAD DXF and writing AutoCAD
2000 version files."

I consider to use Teigha file converter to convert between various DXF and
DWG format versions to the preferred dxf format. But what is actually the
best, or most widely supported, dxf file format for reading dxf data with
OGR?
