Hi Martin,

yes,  /vsizip/a_zip.zip  is seen as a directory by the driver. The shapefile 
driver accepts directories as input, whereas the GML driver does not. For the 
GML, you need to specify the filename within the zip

ogrinfo /vsizip/DOP_ZachParkoviste_b_gml.zip/DOP_ZachParkoviste_b.gml -ro
