please ensure to have gdal_PIXFUN.so in the GDAL_DRIVER_PATH:

env GDAL_DRIVER_PATH=../../.. gdal_translate -of GTiff pixfun_cmul_c.vrt
pixfun_cmul_c.vrt.tif
