For some reason my dataset looks like it's been corrupted (I tested with
gdal contour and observed the same strange behavior in the output as
with QGIS).

The problem was between the keyboard and the chair.

I tested with another dataset, everything works fine.

I guess the only thing remaining for me to do is to implement the WRF
support in the netcdf driver.
