If Geo::GDAL::FFI is the way to go, perhaps you could add a runtime 
deprecation warning (if such thing exists in Perl) in the SWIG Perl 
bindings indicated they will be removed in let's say 3.5 and a hint that 
people should use Geo:GDAL:FFI instead ?
