You should add -t_srs EPSG:3857 in the above so that gdalwarp knows that 
the output SRS is != input SRS, and in particular so that it knows it 
axis order. The pipeline specified by -ct will be used even if -s_srs 
and/or -t_srs are specify.  And then you can remove the below gdal_edit
> $ gdal_edit.py -a_srs EPSG:3857 pipeline.tif
