Howard Butler, Even Rouault, Dan Baston, Javier Jiminez Shaw, and Alessandro Pasotti held the monthly GDAL Maintainers Meeting on 02/22/2024. The following items were discussed and reported upon:

Sponsorship Updates
-------------------------------

* Google's Silver sponsorship was applied to NumFOCUS again for 2024 in January
* Satelligence joined at Supporter level

Discussion Items
----------------------------

* GDAL 3.9.0 is expected in May 2024
* Migration of gdal.org <http://gdal.org/> to ReadTheDocs – proj.org <http://proj.org/> has migrated to RTD, and it would be beneficial for gdal.org <http://gdal.org/> to follow. The biggest benefit would be convenient multi-version docs. Some kind of coordinated DNS move and outage would be required, with no timeline set to start at this time.

Maintenance activities update

* Fixed derived raster bands in VRTs
* Documentation improvements – docstrings in Python bindings , added contribution instructions
* Reorganized Python API docs
* More work on Python test order independence (tantalizingly close)
* Automating of test semi-private or unknown provenance test data – around 30 data sets are not publicly available but are pointed at in tests.

Alessandro

* GDAL PR reviews
* Primarily QGIS release preparation

* Wrote RFC99 and provided preliminary implementation to address management and bookkeeping of coordinate precision in OGR drivers that can leverage it. See https://github.com/rouault/gdal/blob/rfc99_text/doc/source/development/rfc/rfc99_geometry_coordinate_precision.rst for discussion
* Facilitated the release of OpenJPEG 2.5.1. See https://github.com/uclouvain/openjpeg/releases/tag/v2.5.1 for more information
* Action on over 40 tickets and PRs
