I know you said don't blow a gasket on your suggestions, but this is
really not an ok thing to do.


In all seriousness, I think the current proposals to remove things are a
good plan.  People that redistribute gdal as part of a product should
pay attention and relay that to their world and if needed volunteer to
maintain.
