<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi Petr, hello all,<br> <br>That GSoC project GDAL2Tiles from you is an awesome work. You're giving also a good overview on viewers and "<font color="#aa66aa">Tile Structures for Custom Map Publishing</font>" here: <a href="http://www.klokan.cz/projects/gdal2tiles/" target="_blank">http://www.klokan.cz/projects/gdal2tiles/</a> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>This raises for me some questions to you but ultimately are targeted to OGC, OSGEO as well as to other members regarding the status of (WMS) tiling specification(s).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>You speak of "TMS compatible". I think there is quite some confusion regarding (WMS) tiling and caching standards, especially but not only on OSGEO ( <a href="http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WMS_Tile_Caching" target="_blank">http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WMS_Tile_Caching</a>; <a href="http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Tile_Map_Service_Specification" target="_blank">http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Tile_Map_Service_Specification</a>; <a href="http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WMS_Tiling_Client_Recommendation" target="_blank">http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WMS_Tiling_Client_Recommendation</a>; <a href="http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/TilingStandard" target="_blank">http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/TilingStandard</a>). There's also a recent thread about this about "WMS-C tile caching spec" here <a href="https://lists.opengeospatial.org/mailman/private/mass-market-geo/" target="_blank">https://lists.opengeospatial.org/mailman/private/mass-market-geo/</a> where David P. prepares a talk. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I think it would be worthwhile especially for OGC and OSGEO to clarify:</div>
<div> </div>
<div>1. What is the status of "WMS Tiling"at OGC?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>2. What is the status of the tiling standard from an OSGEO view (same as OGC's "WMS Tiling"? Will it follow OGC's proposal if there's one)?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>3. Someone to summarize the relationship of "WMS Tiling/Tiles (OGC)", "Tile Map Service Specification/TMS (OSGEO)" and WMS-C (OSGEO, <a href="http://tilecache.org/" target="_blank">http://tilecache.org</a>)?</div>
