I've built GDAL 1.9.2 on Ubuntu with the default libdap from repositories:<br>
sudo apt-get install libdap11<br>
sudo apt-get install libdap-dev<br>
<br>
ldconfig -p | grep libdap<br>
gives the following:<br>

libdapserver.so.7 (libc6) =>
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdapserver.so.7<br>
libdapserver.so (libc6) =>
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdapserver.so<br>
libdapclient.so.3 (libc6) =>
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdapclient.so.3<br>
libdapclient.so (libc6) =>
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdapclient.so<br>
libdap.so.11 (libc6) =>
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdap.so.11<br>
libdap.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdap.so<br>

Then I've added option --with-dods-root=/usr for the ./configure
script.<br>

I was able to use gdal for accessing remote datasets, but the
current DODS driver is not perfect. See <br>

system nor in the source tarball of libdap. I hear that the
DAP++ SDK team has dropped this family of classes, and that
they recommend to link to new ones, it seems that with the
