I could pretend the splitting was done on purpose to better highligh the <br>

(doxygen/breathe/sphinx, or perhaps just C++ that would confuse "*/" <br>
with an end-of-C-comment marker) to make it happy with "**/*.tif", so I <br>
ended up falling back to this trick of splitting the string, which is <br>
exactly equivalent to merging them together.  I guess there must be some <br>
way of fixing this, but couldn't find it at the time this was written<br>
