FW: SAXTA/Satella

All,
Would someone be interested in taking a look at SAXTA and providing
feedback? It's for peer-to-peer file sharing of geocoded imagery. It's open
source and it might be nice if there was some OSGeo involvement. This has
been in the works for a few years but I think they recently got a bunch of
money to get it working. I'd like to follow what's going on but I expect
there are people who could better evaluate this than me.
For what it's worth, I think this is being funded primarily with NASA money
and interacting with these projects should help get OSGeo on NASA's radar.

Hi Ned,
Thanks for you Email. Satella is the "predecessor" of SAXTA, a sort of
proof of concept actually. Satella has been replaced with SAXTA.
SAXTA is currently in beta test and we are currently gathering external
user feedback to refine the functionalities to be proposed in SAXTA
version 1. SAXTA is a very active project and while the web site home
page has not been updated in a while, we release a new beta version
about a week ago (http://saxta.geog.umd.edu/download.html).
Saxta rely on the idea of the scientific and education communities
sharing satellite images among themselves. Currently the targeted
sensors are Landsat 7 (http://landsat.usgs.gov/index.php) and Aster
(http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/). If you are interested in trying out
the software, please let us know. We would really like to hear what you
think of it and how we can make it better.
