Geonames als WMS/WFS is already available here:

  http://mapserver.flightgear.org/

I realize people don't read announcements, otherwise the question would
not have shown up on this list  ;-)

The copy of Geonames data on this server is not always the most current
but I'm pulling an update from time to time. Please read the "notes" as
mentioned on the top of that page and spread the word.
