[Geodata] Source for Global Country and State/Province Map Data Needed

Hello, I'm looking for a source (paid or free it doesn't matter) for a
global dataset containing the countries and states/provinces of the world. I
have an older version (1999) but am in need of more recent (2005+) and
better geo-referenced data for some projects I am working on. They would
have to be available in a vectorized format (.shp preferred). Any pointers
would be appreciated.
