COURSES OVERVIEW:

1. Comprehensive G.I.S (MAPPING AND SPATIAL ANALYSIS) 4th - 15th June 2018

This 10-day comprehensive GIS course is designed to initiate participants to
QGIS from a basic level and take them through to advanced aspects of raster
data management, manipulation and spatial data analysis. 

Audience: 

The course is designed for individuals who are new to GIS and wish to learn
what QGIS is and how one can use it in their area of specialization like a
pro.

Course Objectives

To deliver skills to individuals new to GIS to successfully use QGIS
software in a professional setting.

The course has a strong practical approach hence participants will gain
experience in field data collection, network analysis and the construction,
manipulation and interpretation of raster data sets in a GIS environment.

Learning Outcomes

*	Understand the key QGIS tools in an appropriate and professional
way, usage of vector and raster data information in order to develop complex
spatial analysis. 
*	Understand the fundamental concepts of Geographic Information
Systems and Technology. 
*	Demonstrate proficiency in the basic and advanced functions of QGIS
software. 
*	Demonstrate awareness of complex remote sensing and spatial analysis
techniques. 
*	Demonstrate advanced proficiency in map creation and design
principles, including thematic map display, map projections, and
cartographic design. 
*	Demonstrate proficiency in the creation and acquisition of spatial
data. 
*	Understand possible difficulties encountered in the execution of GIS
projects, and their solutions through advanced practical exercises.

2. ADVANCED GIS (Mapping and Spatial Analysis) 11th - 15th June 2018

This 5-day course is intended for participants already familiar with the
basics of QGIS and want to improve on their skills.
The course is designed to focus on advanced aspects of raster data
management, manipulation and spatial data analysis.

By completing this course, participants will be able to: -

*	Understand the advanced concepts of QGIS. 
*	Highlight the importance and utility of a Geographic Information
System (GIS), especially in the elaboration of complex spatial analysis with
applicability in engineering design, topography, geology, hydrology, and
many more disciplines. 
*	Learn about GIS key tools in an appropriate and professional way,
create topologies for vector editing, network analysis for various
applications like finding the best route, closest facility, service area
around a location and much more. 
*	Explore all possible difficulties which may be encountered in the
execution of GIS projects, and their solutions through practical advanced
exercises.

Prerequisites and recommendations: 

This is an advanced level course. Participants should have previous
experience in using GIS, Windows-based software, basic file management and
browsing.

3. Mobile Phone Based Data Collection using Open Data Kit (ODK) 18th - 22rd
June 2018 

Audience:

This course is designed for field data collection professionals,
researchers, and anyone who needs an efficient technology to collect data.

Training Objectives

This course seeks to offer a practical understanding of the Open Data Kit
(ODK), and how to use it to collect data using Android devices.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

*	Create a questionnaire forms using  three different applications 
*	Manage the aggregate central server in terms of users, rights, form
uploads/downloads, filters and exports 
*	Read, modify and/or debug a form in its XML format 
*	Download, use and set the parameters of ODK and Kobo collect for
optimal use 
*	Incorporate advanced form features such as picture questions,
cascading, repeat groups, multilingualism, calculated variables, photo and
sound variables, and graphic annotation 
*	Export and analyze responses using different platforms.

Prerequisites and recommendations:

No GIS experience required. This is a beginner level class. Participants
should know how to use Windows-based software for basic file management and
browsing.

4. GIS FOR WASH (USING QGIS) 25th - 29th June 2018

Audience: 

This course is designed for WASH Experts who would like to learn what GIS /
QGIS(open source Software) is and how it can be used in WASH.

Training Objectives: 

This training will expose participants to the use of GIS for WASH programs
with respect to Data Sources, Mapping, Applications, Technology and Timeline
for implementation.

By completing this course, participants will be able to: -

*	Evaluate the spatial data requirements in Water Sanitation and
Hygiene 
*	Use GIS and RS as a tool for monitoring WASH projects 
*	Assess spatial data availability and understand the importance of
Spatial Data Infrastructure in WASH programs 
*	Use participatory GIS (PGIS) at community level 
*	Collect data using Mobile data gathering tools 
*	Design and implement their own GIS projects that integrate remote
sensing data, GPS-based field information in a proper geospatial framework

Prerequisites and recommendations:

No GIS experience required, this is a beginner level class; Participants
should know how to use Windows-based software for basic file management and
browsing.

5. GIS & RS IN DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT. 2nd - 6th July 2018

Audience

The course is designed for professionals who require knowledge and skills on
the use of GIS and RS in their organization in the field of disaster
management. Participants are welcome from a broad range of organizations
including physical planning, institutions, professionals and private GIS and
RS related firms.

Learning Objectives

This course is job oriented and aims to impact practical skills on how to
use GIS and RS to overcome the major challenges faced in pre-disasters
during disaster and post-disaster management such as during early warning,
hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment, damage assessment, as well as in
the design of risk reduction measures.

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

*	Describe and utilize spatial data, GIS and remote sensing in
disaster risk assessment and management 
*	Utilize existing sources of historical disaster information and
elements at risk data 
*	Apply GIS/remote sensing in hazard, vulnerability and risk
assessment 
*	Employ risk information in emergency preparedness planning 
*	Visualize hazard and risk information 
*	Apply GIS/remote sensing to post-disaster damage assessment

No GIS experience required. This is a beginner level class. Participants
should know how to use Windows-based software for basic file management and
browsing.

6. GIS and RS for Climate change impact analysis and adaptation 9th - 13th
July 2018

This training will offer a set of methods and techniques that use GIS and
Remote Sensing for analysis and monitoring climate change, with applications
in climate change impacts and adaptation. 

The course is designed for professionals who require knowledge and skills on
the use of GIS and Remote Sensing in Climate Change Impact Analysis and
Adaptation.

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

*	Evaluate the spatial data requirements in Climate Change Analysis
and Adaptation 
*	Assess spatial data availability and analysis 
*	Apply GIS and RS for designing implementations of large scale early
warning systems 
*	Use participatory GIS (PGIS) at community level 
*	Use Mobile data gathering techniques 
*	Design and implement their own GIS projects that integrate remote
sensing data, and GPS-based field information

Prerequisites and recommendations:

No GIS experience required. This is a beginner level class. Participants
