Dear All,

Thanks to Tom and colleagues, we are now working to have Geo4All award and momento given for the best student of this competition following open principles. We will prepare an OSGeo certificate and momento similar to what we gave for Geo for All educator awards [ see at http://fossgeo.org/2015-award/ ]

Open Principles means the project uses free and open software, adheres to open standards, uses open data and the project outputs (software etc are in open licences ,posters, documentations etc are in creative commons licence etc).

I also want to take this opportunity to request colleagues to please take your leadership and start initiatives in your universities/countries etc when you are involved in any conferences/events etc to give your own Geo4All award and certificate for the best student of the competition following open principles. That way, open principles will always have a voice everywhere. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Best wishes,

Suchith

FYI (specially for those in the USA). Another one that seems to be aimed at ESRI users. Should Geo4all take any action towards these type of events?

2016 Geospatial Skills Competition
The GeoTech Center is pleased to announce the 2016 Undergraduate Geospatial Technology Skills Competition! The intent of the competition is to showcase the geospatial technology skills of U.S. undergraduate students. Competing students will create a project that utilizes geospatial technology to address a real-world problem. The student will then present the project and the resulting deliverables as a Poster that not only highlights their use of geospatial technology, but also demonstrates their communication and presentation skills.

All materials must be submitted no later than midnight Eastern Time on Friday, April 29th.

The competition will be judged by a panel of experienced geospatial specialists, and the combined scores from all judges will determine the winners. These winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the 2016 ESRI User Conference in San Diego, CA on June 27 - July 1, 2016. Winning posters will be on display at the 2016 Esri User Conference map gallery.
