Greetings to all members of the ICA Commission on Education and Training

I remind you that our next meeting will be in Wuhan, China, in May 2014.

We join with our colleagues in the ISPRS Commission on Education to present a symposium titled "Data, Information, and Knowledge Sharing for Geo-Education". The symposium is from 19 May to 21 May 2014, and the administration is under control of Wuhan University staff. The symposium details can be found at www.lmars.whu.edu.cn/isprscom6

The content of the symposium will be relevant to all members of our Commission, but the structure will involve sessions from each of the ISPRS Commission 'Working Groups' (there are six of these) plus a session from our Commission. This depends on the submission of papers to the symposium.

All members of the Commission who are interested in travelling to Wuhan are encouraged to submit an abstract of their presentation. The abstracts can be up to 500 words and are due before 15 December. Any aspect of education in cartography can be considered - both those topics outlined on our Terms of Reference (e.g. education for developing countries, using emerging technologies for cartographic education, on-line courses, continuing professional development and training teachers, educational theory, raising mapping awareness etc.) and your own pedagogical interests and experiences.

Please send abstracts to the main organiser, Peng Yue (geopyue at gmail.com) and copy to me also.

I look forward to meeting with you again next year in Wuhan. Please interact with any comments you have about our Commission so that we can maintain a good dialogue with each other.

David

It can be noted that following the symposium, there will be a "summer camp" for international students which is free of charge for them (including accommodation etc.). If you have students who would like to follow a 4/5 day course in Wuhan on one of the following - Open Source mapmaking technologies (presented by ICA), Geosquare/web service chaining, spatial statistics, or image handling (all presented by ISPRS) - they can find details at http://www.lmars.whu.edu.cn/isprscom6/summercamp.html
