Hi Jeroen,

Sure, we are going to allow everyone in the lab network  to put their ideas. The only reason, I thought to start setting a small committee (around 5+ the 3 Presidents) is that we can have a group in place to start moving actions on this.

All- could I request others who have not yet contributed to this discussion, to also bring your ideas forward. Is everyone supportive of this ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS Awards initiative?

Just thinking that we may also allow people in other regions of the world to respond before fixing a committee? Specifically to make sure we get buy in from labs around the world?

Good you bring this up! I've been thinking about such thing for a long time and discussed it within a small group of friends back than. GeoCat would be willing to sponsor such type of thing. I would like to see that have the form of a competition where it would be great if ICA OSGeo labs would assist with the process of student applications and evaluation to come to a winner, second and third prize. First prize could indeed be a trip to the FOSS4G conference to receive the prize and present the winning work. If this is of interest I'm available to discuss details.
