Colleagues,
We had a meeting on the certification ideas just now and in parallel were also discussing ideas on encouraging student participation at FOSS4G events through poster sessions etc and Lene Fisher mentioned an excellent idea of building a Digital Poster Board for showcasing the various student projects that are using Open Source GIS and data.
I suggest that as part of the GeoforAll website developments we do this as it will not only be an opportunity for students to share their work but also for everyone to know the research done at the various labs and build collaborations. Also it can be used for other FOSS4G events globally to run their student poster competions later and have it showcased and archived.
Lene also send an example of http://qgis.dk which she did.
Could i request you to please give your ideas /thoughts on this and any other web development activities that you think we need for our website, so that we can plan this now. Please let us all know what additional functionalities you want from our website, so we can check the development time for all these and if it is feasible within our 3.5k budget allocation for the website developments
Jason - could you please give us an estimate of time effort and costs for implementing this, so i can send the estimate to OSGeo Board and Treasuer also to include in the budget we have for ICA-OSGeo labs. Thanks.
Suchith
