Bobb,
This still remains a good idea! Especially combined with the suggestion by Suchith for the student posters to have, in addition to their poster, a web presence. Your URL-cycling tool would put all that good information into a display mode and be especially useful wherever there might be a monitor at the conference to entertain and inform, lobby, cafeteria, etcetera. And maybe even on presentation monitors, between presentations.

All,
My reference to a screen was simply that it's not too difficult to set up a Web Site cycler display to run through a set of URLS for display purposes. The idea that I offered was the notion that a digital script could be set up for the poster so as to run them via a browser in an automatic fashion (if a display device were available, and also from the Web for anyone tool look at.

Maria, Bella,
I think Suchith is suggesting that we ask the students for the data in two formats. One where they provide a webpage/website of their work that the FOSS4G website can display. Then of course they will have the usual poster session at the conference (the large format printed posters). We might want to ask them to also prepare a double-sided 1-page handout, this might even look a lot like their webpage. You certainly can't provide a large screen for each one of the posters!
-Patrizio
P.S.: It might be easiest to ask the students to establish their own website and then have them provide FOSS4G the URL of that. FOSS4G could then use that link to point to their work. This will allow them to maintain that website as needed. It will also provide a wonderful opportunity for the FOSS4G community to continually experience the leading edge work of these students. Will work well for their resume!

But does it mean that I need a big screen that I have not?
Can you better explain me?
Thanks!
Maria

Maria - also if you are thinking of Poster session at FOSS4G Europe 2015, i would suggest that we use this opportunity for having the posters uploaded directly and displayed in this Digital poster board in our website. Students can print and display the posters at the event also but having the digital display board will have wider impact. Also if we get the voting widget setup, it can be used to test best poster award etc easily. Thanks.

Thanks Bob, Lene.
Lene- the wordpress option looks good.
Also the Advisory Board had been thinking of an annual easy reporting mechanism of all labs, so we can learn each others activities and plan collaboration. Once we have the Digital poster board setup for student presentation, we can easily tailor similar one for the annual summary poster for each lab . This can then be used for building OSGeo-Live like summary presentation of all labs which any of us wishing to present the latest developments at key conferences/events etc can make use of. So these additional website developments can have many uses.
Jason- please do give us your feedbacks/ideas on this. Thanks.
Suchith

All,
I actually set a automatic presentation to run on a large display while at some GIS conferences. I've run the OSGeo-Live presentation like this in the past on a number of occasions.
I've always wanted to something similar that show active projects and what they did, but just never had the time to put something together. OSGeoLive seems like a good fit for setting up something similar to this but more from a OSGeo sales perspective.
Just some thoughts as I thought of them..
Bobb

Hi Suchith,
It´s easy to set up a wordpress blog - as the one you linked to. As an addition a Rating Widget https://wordpress.org/plugins/rating-widget/ or some Voting Widget.
A page/theme could easily be shared for the different occations.
Regards
Lene Fischer

Colleagues,
We had a meeting on the certification ideas just now and in parallel were also discussing ideas on encouraging student participation at FOSS4G events through poster sessions etc and Lene Fisher mentioned an excellent idea of building a Digital Poster Board for showcasing the various student projects that are using Open Source GIS and data.
I suggest that as part of the GeoforAll website developments we do this as it will not only be an opportunity for students to share their work but also for everyone to know the research done at the various labs and build collaborations. Also it can be used for other FOSS4G events globally to run their student poster competions later and have it showcased and archived.
Lene also send an example of http://qgis.dk which she did.
Could i request you to please give your ideas /thoughts on this and any other web development activities that you think we need for our website, so that we can plan this now. Please let us all know what additional functionalities you want from our website, so we can check the development time for all these and if it is feasible within our 3.5k budget allocation for the website developments
Jason - could you please give us an estimate of time effort and costs for implementing this, so i can send the estimate to OSGeo Board and Treasuer also to include in the budget we have for ICA-OSGeo labs. Thanks.
Suchith
