Dear all,
I am a new member of the list and I would like to introduce myself.
I knew about this list and about Geo for All during the great FOSS4G conference that was held in Como last week.
I have a master degree in Environmental Science (University of Milan, Italy) and a PhD in Conservation and management of Biodiversity (University of Insubria, Italy).
My main research interest is applying GIS in wildlife analysis and management, forestry and ecology. I am fascinated by new technologies for surveys like remote sensing, camera traps and the tools to handle these data. I am currently having a lot of fun analyzing bear videos collected with camera traps in the Italian Alps.
I am a supporter of open source software and open access since I was a student.
I have been teaching FOSS GIS since 2004 at professional courses and at universities of Trento, Varese and Milan and teaching is one of the most rewarding experiences for me.
In 2005 I joined the Ecology lab of the University of Trento and together with the colleagues of Topography [1] we held grass workshops around Italy at national conferences and around the world at FOSS4G conferences (British Columbia, Spain, Australia, South Africa among some ).
I was at FOSS4G in Victoria (BC) where I joined the Education and Curriculum Committee of OSGEO.
I developed free tutorials for the self learning of GRASS and QGIS in Italian and in English [2] and a module for analysing wildlife surveys in GRASS[3].
Since 2011 with Marco Ciolli from University of Trento and Francesco Rovero from the Science Museum in Trento, I have been organising and teaching in a summer school in Tanzania [4] "Field and GIS tools for assessing, monitoring and mapping", where the GIS used is all FOSS.
Sorry for the long introduction, I hope I can contribute to the list and to this great community,
Kind regards
Clara
