Maria, Bella!
I am very excited about this FOSS4G 2015 in Como! Such a beautiful place and where the Queen of GIS resides. This will be the best FOSS4G yet! I believe we need some grand beginnings, ways for organizing this group toward a positive world impact. World conditions are becoming increasingly problematic. We do not have the luxury to just let things happen, we must lead, we must organize, we must find ways to maximize the effect of this very beautiful altruistic community.

I hope the Europa Challenge teams present at FOSS4G will have an opportunity to present their applications! Right now it looks like at least four or five teams will be there.  The Europa Challenge Award Ceremony will be a wonderful climax to an incredible effort by some very talented FOSSy folks! And we have some gorgeous NASA/FOSS4G Crystal Bulls to award!

Many thanks Suchith and the Board. I wonder if the OSGeo President wants to award the prize to students during the Conference. I know that also George Gartner and Chen Jun will be in Como and therefore they can award the two prizes given by their Associations.

We will have info about the three winning teams a the beginning of June and the classification the last day of the Conference.
Patrick is the Chair of the NASA WW Challenge. Please Patrick would you like to add something?

Hi All,

Thanks to the OSGeo Board for support for the Student Awards [1] at FOSS4G conferences.

So it is now time for us to take actions for the next steps to get this started . It is important that we build strong foundations for this for expanding this for the future.

1. It is important that we start the discussions in an open mailling list specifically for this, so that all ideas are saved for future conference organisors and award committees. So may i request all chairs of FOSS4G conferences and  also wider community members who have interest in the Student awards initiative to subscribe and join the mailling list at http://lists.osgeo.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/geoforall-awards

2. I request the chairs of FOSS4G-Europe 2015 (Maria) http://eurochallenge.como.polimi.it/projects2015  and FOSS4G 2015 Seoul (Sanghee) http://2015.foss4g.org/ to inform updates on the student awards planned at their events and get in touch with the OSGeo Treasurer for the $1000 USD allocation

All- please give your ideas/suggestions to make this Student Award program a great success.Thanks.
