Jeff, Many thanks for bringing this to our attention.

All - please provide your ideas on how we can best manage this.

Sanghee - Sorry for my ignorance but who are the Academic Committee? Is it the LOC? Who is the main contact for the Academic Committee? Please let us know, so we can coordinate things smoothly.

For the OSGeo Student Awards at FOSS4G Seoul , one option is  as Venka and Maria will be there at Seoul, that they both be the Geo4All contact for the OSGeo Student Awards and work with Sanghee (and whoever is the main contact of the Academic Committee)  and OSGeo Treasurer to make sure everything is arranged smoothly in advance

Another option is Jeff as OSGeo President can arrange 1000 USD from OSGeo Treasurer to take directly with him and hand over directly to the winning students selected by the Academic Committee. May be this second option  might be easier esp. if winning students are decided at the conference time and award need to be given at the same time.

Hello GeoForAll,

You will remember after FOSS4G-Como my messages asking for GeoForAll
from now on to manage all of the student awards at FOSS4G; we sort of
learned our lesson during FOSS4G-Como that much must go into these
awards (preparing presentation, publishing names, contacting the OSGeo
Treasurer).  To refresh everyone's memory of Como, there were no awards
prepared, and the treasurer had no idea of names (and that went on even
until last week when I had to contact the school for payment, oh my).
So, all that must be planned by GeoForAll.

Well, here we are almost at FOSS4G-Seoul.  Can I request that someone
from GeoForAll contact Sanghee directly to help with this?

As background, I have been managing the Sol Katz award, now in its 11th
year, so I know the effort required.  For Seoul I am preparing the
plaque etc.

So I kindly ask for GeoForAll to step in and manage the FOSS4G-Seoul
awards.  Thanks!

Dear Jeff and Jeroen and All,

As you know there will be Student Awards at FOSS4G Seoul. We have 3
categories of Awards - OSGeo Awards, GeoCat Awards and FOSS4G Seoul
Awards. Academy Committee will select total 6 winners, each 2 winners
per Award. Venka, Jeroen also agreed to select 2 winners through Academy
Committee for GeoCat Awards.

For awards ceremony, Seoul team will prepare 6 paper Certificate of
Awards with winners name empty. We can write down winners name on the
spot after Academy Committee’s final selection.

For FOSS4G Seoul Award prize, we’ll give winners direct cash in Korean
Won as a prize.

Jeff and Jeroen, please let us know how you will give a prize to winners
and if there’s anything Seoul team should prepare for.

Venka, can you please lead Student Awards ceremony? And I hope Jeff and
Jeroen could join there for awarding.
