Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform that our colleagues at the Open Source Geospatial Lab at UNMC, Malaysia [1] will be organising a free one day workshop on Open Source, Open Standards, Open Data in Geospatial for  Malaysian government organisations, SMEs  and startups on the 26th Feb 2016 in Malaysia.

This will expand the success of GIS workshops for government organisations, SMEs and startups organised at the  University of Nottingham last year [2] Our thanks to Dr. Tuong Thuy Vu and his team at the Open Source Geospatial Lab at UNMC for organising this workshop in Malaysia for spreading more opportunities for everyone. This workshop will be focussed for Malaysian government organisations, SMEs and startups and provide them with the information needed to explore more opportunities.

As a New Year resolution, i request you to please share Open Principles in GeoEducation ideas and philosophy at your universities and organisations by running GIS workshops and events on Open Source, Open Standards, Open Data in Geospatial. May i also request all who are taking part in various Geo events (International Map Year activities, Geography Awareness Week, OSM Geo Week, GIS day etc ) to also make use of the opportunity to promote Open Principles in GeoEducation sharing information on Open Principles in Geospatial and welcoming those interested to be part of this. Also please to give away OSGeo Live DVDs [3] and other educational materials etc at these events.

Open principles in geoeducation (open educational resources, free and open software, open data, open standards etc) are key for  true empowerment of staff and students globally and making geospatial education and opportunities accessible to all. We look forward to working and building collaborations with all interested in this education mission. Access to quality education and opportunities is key for getting rid of extreme poverty and enabling broadly shared prosperity for all.

Happy New Year wishes to everyone.

Best wishes,

Suchith
