Dear all,

Last Friday,Nikos, Phillip, Dimitris, myself had good initial discussions with Jon, Chris and Ana to help us understand more on GeoBadges and how we may use them for expanding our education outreach. Though there are lot of scope for GeoBadges in various themes ,we thought it is important that we take one small step at a time to first to explore this and then based on the response and experiences gained expand ideas further.

GeoBadges can be used for various activities (from giving recognition to skills gained for example in QGIS - this might be something that GeoAcademy can explore) to showing contributions for community activities (OGC has been doing this for the TC meeting participation etc) to service .

We thought it might be best that we look into this for service. Fundamentally Geo4All is voluntary service for expanding GeoEducation opportunities for the betterment of humanity and all colleagues who are contributing to Geo4All are all following the principles, so it is important that we take some time to acknowledge their contributions as our GeoAmbassodors.

We will setup a small team (Regional chairs of Geo4All) who should decide who to allocate GeoBadges on behalf of Geo4All for service. They can decide how to do this. It can be service for contributions to curriculum development (for example, anyone who has contributed to OSGeo Educational repository) can be awarded a GeoBadge, anyone doing training programs, workshops at FOSS4G conferences etc. We will also look at the OSGeo Advocate list and those in the list who have contributed to GeoEducation efforts, will be given GeoBadges . We will contact Christian, Cameron for their ideas/inputs on this.

Having a team of approvers who are trusted representatives of the OSGeo community will also ensure that we have quality checks in place. We want to make sure that Geo4All label is used only by those who follow Geo4All principles. We will discuss these ideas with the Regional chairs and get back with their inputs.

Best wishes,

Suchith
