This might be of interest to some colleagues. It will be good if we can present an abstract for this esp highlighting the mapathons and how geodata can contribute to advance the frontiers of research. As it is held in Denver , Rafael and colleagues may be able to present as well !

Maria, Rafael - what do you think?

Subject: [CODATA-international] Great News for the Weekend! SCIDATACON 2016 DEADLINES EXTENDED TO 30 MAY

Great news for the weekend! Colleagues will be pleased to hear that the deadline for submission of abstracts for papers and posters to SciDataCon 2016 has been extended to 30 May.

The extension comes in response to numerous requests and in order to have a full call for posters. Please note, however, that there will be no further extension of this deadline.

Submit abstracts at http://www.scidatacon.org/2016/submit/

Please consult the guidelines for papers and for posters very carefully http://www.scidatacon.org/2016/submit/ and consider the scope of the conference http://www.scidatacon.org/site/themes-scope/

You may submit abstracts to any of the 48 selected sessions or to the general submission. We will physically group posters according to themes and the sessions to which they relate. For this reason, poster submission will be dealt with in the same way as with papers. Poster abstracts should be submitted to accepted sessions or to a General Submission option.

What is SciDataCon 2016?
SciDataCon is THE international conference for scrutiny and discussion of the frontier issues of data in research. The scope of SciDataCon covers scientific, infrastructure and policy matters and the place of data in research endeavour and scholarly communications; the opportunities of the data revolution for the global research enterprise; innovations in data science and data stewardship; and the challenge of developing a sustainable data ecosystem, including the role of education and capacity building. SciDataCon is organised bi-annually by CODATA (the Committee on Data of ICSU, the International Council for Science) and the ICSU World Data System.

SciDataCon 2016 “Advancing the Frontiers of Data in Research” seeks to advance the frontiers of data in all areas of research. This means addressing a range of fundamental and urgent issues around the ‘Data Revolution’ and the recent data-related transformations in research. It will take place on 11-13 September 2016 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Denver, Colorado, USA.

SciDataCon and International Data Week
SciDataCon is part of the International Data Week, 11-16 September 2016 http://www.internationaldataweek.org/, convened by ICSU Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA, http://www.codata.org/) the ICSU World Data System (ICSU-WDS www.icsu-wds.org/) and the Research Data Alliance.
