Thanks Nikos for bringing this to our attention. This large scale cuts in education is disappointing news. It is important that we do our best to support education globally. GeoforAll supports the global efforts in advancing high quality education and opportunities for all . Some properitery GIS vendors might use this to trap poor schools with limited "free" licences offers and do huge marketing like 10 billion USD software donation etc then change their conditions later and start charging high costs later.
All our educational tools like QGIS is free for all schools globally forever. The schools , teachers , students and wider global community are the owners of the software not the properitery GIS vendor owners!. This empowerment is very important . So it is important teachers and policy makers are made aware of this.
We are proud to support the global commons movement in education through our strong support for Creative Commons https://stateof.creativecommons.org
Best wishes,
Suchith

Very bad news... but it is a breakpoint that will allow the consolidation of ecosystems based on the collaborative construction of knowledge. Most large multinationals are likely to leave public institutions (knowing there is no more money to buy products or licenses); And that gap can be easily covered by the goodwill of communities like Geo4All.
