Hi Daniel,
Welcome to GeoForAll and thank you for sharing this updates. The situation you described is very true in many developing countries till recently but thanks to the effort of Open communities worldwide this is changing fast. You have now full access for all your geoeducation software education needs from the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. Please be the GeoForAll leader in Uganda and share GeoForAll ideas at your conference and to all colleagues . Give everyone the power to donate software so digital divides are bridged. You can now donate  Free and Open Source Geospatial software to all the urban centres, municipalities and town councils in Uganda so they are empowered forever.
We look forward to your active participation in GeoForAll.
Best wishes,
Suchith

Hi Peter,
Thank you for this info. This is an excellent outreach idea and AGU is a like minded community that we need to proactively build synergies. I think the work that  Open Geoscience Committee has doing by organising annual townhall meetings at the EGU gernal assemblies etc has been really great impact and we need to expand these ideas . OSGeo projects are driving science conducted by AGU/EGU members, so it is natural synergies. For the MoU with AGU/EGU and other like minded communities, you can get ideas from the MoUs the OSGeo have with ICA, ISPRS, IGU to get the template and modify as needed.
Please take lead to reach out to AGU, EGU  and establish MoU. This will be of interest to the GeoForAll Academic community as well.  We really need champions like you to reach out proactively to wider communities and build collaborations. So thank you for your initiative to reach out.
Best wishes,
Suchith

Dear Board, (cc: OpengeoScience Committee)
I can inform you about an interesting opportunity for OSGeo.
AGU (https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=www.agu.org&data=02%7C01%7Cpatricia.solis%40ttu.edu%7C54313c9471c649db7bbe08d5268a823b%7C178a51bf8b2049ffb65556245d5c173c%7C0%7C0%7C636457298705139210&sdata=PXUzC7TsVjTOFSlAygAyPXv51ResmVoA9LXJwGjoT2Y%3D&reserved=0, representing 60.000 geoscientists globally) is currently preparing a project to implement the FAIR-principles (Findable|Accessible|Interoperable|Reusable) for their science divisions and early career scientists. In this context, I'm attending the projects kickoff-meeting next week.
The current focus of AGU is to apply FAIR to all kinds of research data which is used and published.According to the project stakeholders at AGU, they want to create a critical mass of all stakeholders providing input how to advance the implememntaion of FAIR.
It can be argued that software, including the OSgeo projects, is also a kind of data. We know from the annual general meetings of AGU and its twin organisation EGU (European Geoscience Union), that software tools from OSGeo projects are workhorses for science conducted by AGU/EGU members.
OSGeo has been reaching out to EGU/AGU already: The Open Geoscience Committee has been organising annual townhall meetings at the EGU gernal assemblies for over four years, OSGeo BOF-meetings have been organised during earlier AGU general assemblies.
While I have not been invited to the upcoming meeting because of being a OSgeo charter member, I believe this is a good opportunity to make our voice heard and put us officially on the map (IMHO FAIR is fully compatible with the OSGeo paradigm) and to argue for a MOU with AGU.
Feedback from the board would be appreciated, whether this approach is in the interest of OSGeo. If so, more advice on how to push for / prepare a MOU would be great (-> latest MOU with  DOI )

Best,Peter
