Postdoc in remote sensing for agricultural insurance opportunity.

Location: UC Davis Department of Environmental Science and Policy

Description:
We are looking for a candidate interested in the use of remote sensing
and modeling to support the further development of agricultural
insurance programs in East Africa. The candidate will (a) compare and
improve methods to map seasonal crop types and yield, using remotely
sensed data; (b) develop and describe workflows that implement these
methods, so that they can be easily used by others; and (c) support
collaborators in East African implementing these methods to support
crop insurance and certification.

The position's primary work location will be in Davis, CA, with frequent
travel to East Africa and the possibility of an extended stay in Kenya.
The appointment is initially for 12 months, with a preferred start date
January 1, 2019. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the UC Davis
postdoctoral appointment policy

Qualifications:
At the time of appointment, the applicant must have a PhD in remote
sensing, geospatial science, agriculture, economics or another relevant
discipline. The ideal candidate has ample experience in remote sensing
and modeling, and a demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer
languages such as R, Python, or C++ in the context of applied research
projects. Experience with Google Earth Engine and crop modeling is
desirable. Candidates should have an interest in interdisciplinary work
and capacity building.
