Patricia, as YouthMappers are working to building Mappers it is fundamental that they are fully empowered to own and give away the mapping data and tools as they wish to their communities without the need for any payment to any vendors in the future. So it is great that you are using QGIS and other free and open tools also for YouthMappers. We are also keen to further expand our collaborations with YouthMappers to help provide startup opportunities in geospatial technologies to all. Please provide the link of OSGeo in YouthMappers website, so from now you have all the free and open mapping resources at your disposal forever. Please also add adding OSGeo logo in the YouthMappers website and presentations to acknowledge the contributions of all the volunteers who help make available all free and open software. GeoForAll will be actively promoting YouthMappers activities through our networks.

Let us all work together to give all YouthMappers the power to empower themselves and empower their communities. We are looking forward to work with you for this.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Dear Patricia,

Thank you for your excellent presentation today. The work YouthMappers are doing is directly in line with our mission for providing geospatial education opportunities for all , so we will be very happy to further join ideas and expand synergies. I know that many of GeoforAll colleagues in various universities are already supporting YouthMappers chapters etc, so it important that we keep expanding our collaborations for open geo. We already have strong synergies with open communities (open data, open education, open science ) and also work closely with OSM community, so this is great to further expand our collaborations in geoeducation for the future. We look forward to work with you.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Abstract

Capitalizing on web-based open geospatial technologies, YouthMappers seeks to cultivate a generation of young leaders to create resilient communities and to define their world by mapping it. Uniting a global network of student-led chapters, now on 100 university campuses in 30 countries, we promote the creation and use of open data on open platforms in ways that directly address development challenges, both in the local community and around the world through remote collaborations. Mapping applications focus on a range of significant issues like food insecurity, public health, natural disasters, and peaceful development. The program supports university efforts to offer meaningful global learning experiences, build a socially engaged citizenry, enhance long-term scientific capacity around the world, and foster university student leadership. The program is supported by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development’s GeoCenter and co-founded by Texas Tech University, George Washington University and West Virginia University. www.youthmappers.org<http://www.youthmappers.org>
