Hi Suchith,
The attendee count at AAG will be on the order of 10,000 people not 1,000.
I just checked on the cost to insert something into the bag of every attendee and it costs $1,000 to do so, on top of the costs of producing USBs. My recommendation would be to have a few hundred handy and judiciously distribute such as at the organized panel session and the International Reception.

    Hi Guido,

    I haven't attended AAG but I think it is over 1000 delegates -maybe someone who has more knowledge on AAG can inform us on the exact numbers.

    We can reach out to the OSGeo Marketing Committee and OSGeo-Live for ideas. If we can give away OSGeoLive USBs to all delegates it will be a great boost for OSGeo Promotion and outreach at this key event. Many people in the geography community are not aware of the excellent resource like OSGeo-Live.

    As the costs may be high (if we are planning 1000s of USBs), I suggest that to have someone in OSGeo Marketing Committee/OSGeo Live Team to actively explore  if there are organisations willing to sponsor this. The sponsor organisation can have thier logo in the USB. We can then extend this idea for future conferences for OSGeo Live USBs promotion.

    We are planning to run a Panel session (just before the YouthMappers Mapathon ) . I have send a draft abstract to the GeoForAll community .

    Again, sorry I missed the meeting. I hope to make any followup ones.

    I how many USB sticks are you looking for? Have you found a vendor to produce them and if so do you know how much you need to create them? Did you want to do bootable disks, if so can your vendor create the bootabe disks?

    As someone who is on the marketing comittee and who has done a run of USB live sticks for a FOSS4G I can tell you that it is not as easy or inexpensive as I thought it would be to make them. That said, they were a very useful tool to share with our workshops and to new users who were able to get them to work.

    Other than the youth mapping project, is anyone submitting a talk or panel about open source?

    Thank you to Patricia, Marcella, Tom, Phillip who were able to join our telemeeting. . I hope I correctly summarised the main points from the discussions below . Please correct/edit/modify  as needed.

      1.  We discussed ideas for supporting YouthMappers hackathon at AAG 2019. Patricia, Marcella are involved in organising this. We can support them by helping organise a panel session    (just before the hackathon) bring key panelists.

    Action - Suchith to prepare a draft abstract for the proposed panel session and send it to GeoForAll list with request that any two volunteers who are planning to be at AAG 2019 act as co-chairs for the session. We can then submit this by Oct 24th?

    2. We discussed the importance of having strong presence for OSGeo at AAG 2019. Once idea was to have OSGeo Live USBs handed out to all AAG participants, students etc . This will be a great way to reach out to the participants as well as serve a great value to the participants.

    There will costs but doable if we are able to find an organisation to sponsor the OSGeo Live USBs ? Guido- it will be great to have your ideas for this. The sponsor can put their logo in the USB?  All ideas welcome.
