All,
I know I posted last month about the American Geographical Society’s EthicalGEO initiative, but Summer is a strange time when most folks are not focused on their email stream, so I am re-posting!
The EthicalGEO submission website is now open at www.EthicalGEO.org <http://www.ethicalgeo.org/>, and video submissions are beginning to come in. And, we would love to have many of you from the GeoForAll community submit so that we have a bunch of EthicalGEO perspectives from the open source geo community! Please spread the good word within the open source geo data and tech community about our EthicalGEO initiative.
There is a link to the Mappyist Hour podcast where I discuss the effort, and there is a good FAQ that explains what we are doing.
I know that the GeoForAll community is global. Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, we had to limit the first year winners to North America, simply to the logistics and cost of running the program (e.g. travel, visas, taxes, ugh…). So, only folks from Mexico, Canada and the US can be 2019 EthicalGEO Fellows.
BUT!, everyone on Earth can actually submit their ideas in the form of videos (even if they are ineligible to win), and vote for and comment on all the submissions. We are racing to have the submission website open up August 1. And, we would love for all of you and your students to participate! The GeoForAll community has an amazing diversity of thought and a strong commitment to the ethical dimensions of geospatial science, technology, data, analysis, and application.
We would love to have all of you, and all of your networks of colleagues, involved in the process. And we will do our best to have next year’s EthicalGEO process be fully international!
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Chris
