Hi Victor. Take a look at this (for an introduction): https://gvsigbatovi.wordpress.com/2018/12/05/course-contest-projects-with-students-and-gvsig-batovi-by-way-of-conclusion/

I hope that after reading this post you'll have an idea of what we have done here. Now it's up to you to evaluate if it's possible to adapt it to your country. Maybe you can start with something not so ambitious (not at a National level, for instance) but you'll surely find a way to develop your idea. If you need any more information just say it. We'll be glad to help you.

Have a nice day,

Hi All,
I am very much interested to support such competition in Africa, and Nigeria,in particular, where,I lead a community of Student teams in more than 7 universities for OSM /GeoForAll activities.
Thanks @ Suchith for the guide, would appreciate more help . at Sergio, would you be happy to inbox me a template of your successful national competition?
I would also like to know if the Africa Regional Chair has any plan towards this ,however,I would like to plan for a national competition for students in Nigeria.
Thanks

Hi all,

Sergio ran an excellent National level student competition in Uruguay last year. So please take inspiration from student competition examples in Uruguay, USA etc to run student competitions in your regions.

May I request colleagues to come forward from different regions (esp. Africa ) to please run GIS competitions for students . It does require lot of efforts and work but is a great way to acknowledge the contributions of students. I understand that GeoForAll is this year aiming for 6 student competitions (max. 500 USD awards per competition), so please take initiative to organise a student competition in your region.

Please send your requests directly to GeoForAll chairs Helena and Victoria who will be happy to discuss ideas.

If you can use one of the FOSS4G regional conferences to do this that will be great. I hope in future years, every FOSS4G (both global and regional ones) consider this .

Best wishes,

Suchith
