Hello all!

I would like to make you aware of the ECMWF Summer of Weather Code (ESoWC) programme. ESoWC is an online coding programme during the summer focused on promoting innovative weather-related open-source software.

Developers from all over the world are invited to submit a proposal to one of the 12 challenges proposed. Five proposals will be selected and the winners will work closely together with ECMWF mentors throughout the summer (from May to August). The five selected projects will win a stipend of £5000 each.

This year’s challenges comprise of for example the development of innovative data visualisations for atmospheric data, machine learning applications or the development of an open source tool for GIS-based dissolve functionalities.

Have a look at the 2019 challenges on GitHub.

For more information about ESoWC in general and how to apply, visit the website.

Follow also @esowc_ecmwf and #ESoWC2019 on Twitter.

Applications are open until 21 April!

Especially following challenges might be of interest:

- Challenge #2 - Enhanced visualisation of atmospheric data),

- Challenge #3 - Open source tool for GIS-based dissolve functionalities, and

- Challenge #8 - Obtaining online aircraft metadata.

For all ML / DL enthusiasts, have a look at challenge #7 and challenge #12.

Cheers,
Julia
