Dear All

Due to some issues on my side, the competition did not happen as early as
planned. I would still like to run the competition this year, and have
thus, been speaking with Sergio about this a bit.

The idea for the competition was to do a 3-min thesis, however, due to the
trademark and their restrictions, we will not be able to do that and I
think it is very restrictive as it would only be open to PhD students. So,
we are calling the competition, *Pitch your research*, where students will
have 5 minutes to talk about their project showcasing open source, open
data or open standards.

We will announce the competition next week and it will be open for
submissions until 30 November. The evaluation period will run until 9
December, and the winners will be announced on 10 December. There will be a
number of cash prizes (I confirmed with the OSGeo Treasurer that we can
still use our allocated budget).

Sergio has agreed to lead the evaluation for Spanish submissions. Thus at
this moment, we will be accepting submissions in English and Spanish. If
you are willing to evaluate submissions for a specific language, please let
me know.

We are also asking for volunteers that would be willing to evaluate a
number of submissions. If you would be able to help, please let me know.

Additionally, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Regards
Victoria
