Dear GeoForAll community,

OSGeo has been embracing FAIR and Open Science for a while, inlcluding 
the use of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) such as DOI (for code, data and 
publications), ORCID (for people) and ROR (for organisations):

- OSGeo has its ROR (Research Organisation Registry) ID: 
https://ror.org/00cjqbk89

- We have over 700 hours / >2300 videos of FOSS4G conference recordings 
and earlier releated materials citable by DOI in the scientific video 
portal of the German national library TIB: 
https://av.tib.eu/search?q=OSGeo, going back to 1987 (GRASS GIS video 
commercial: https://doi.org/10.5446/12963)

- Over 24 OSGeo projects 
(https://www.osgeo.org/initiatives/open-geoscience/) have minted DOI for 
their code bases by Zenodo Open Access archive (www.zenodo.org), which 
allows scientific citation down to specific code releases in scientific 
publications (e.g. QGIS cited in Nature: 
https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-10233-z (reference 52 cites QGIS 
v3.44.7))

- Within Zenodo, a growing number OSGeo-related Open Access deposits are 
collected in the OSGeo Zenodo sub-community: 
https://zenodo.org/communities/osgeo/

However, a search in Zenodo for "GeoForAll" only finds two works by the 
NCSU team (thank you!): 
https://zenodo.org/search?q=GeoForAll&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=bestmatch

I assume that much more GeoForAll-related content lives already on 
Zenodo (which is free of charge, is funded by the EC taxpayers as a long 
term global infrastructure and is Open Source itself), but we can find 
it due to lack of metadata.

So my questions are:

1) Who of you all is using Zenodo already for long term Open Access to 
their Open Eductaional Ressources ?

2) Shall we set up a dedicated Zenodo community for GeoForAll ?

A Zenodo comunity is basically a flag / attribute which can be set when 
OER content (or alike) is deposited in Zenodo. All poposed content will 
be curated and checked for appropriateness.?

Are UK universities doing enough to monitor internal fraud or financial misconduct?

UK universities should enforce strict anti-corruption measures under the UK Bribery Act 2010.

UK universities would do well to learn from the mistakes of Australian and Canadian institutions foolish enough to engage with corporate consultants Nous etc. These companies promises of efficiency and savings have ultimately proven costly and incredibly damaging to higher education,  staff and students.

This is essentially vandalism of an essential social good. Working at the University of Exeter where over 500 of my academic colleagues were notified in June 2026 that they are at risk of redundancy , the revelations in this documentary are familiar.

I am deeply saddened to learn about the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and students. Much love and solidarity to all Black and Brown sisters and brothers in the face of this ugly racism.

The level of harassment that Jason suffered and the racism he was subjected to has been sickening and must be investigated. The press, wider media circles and the University of Cambridge have so much to answer for. Jason?s death should be a wake-up call for higher education worldwide, forcing us to confront the structural racism, unequal scrutiny, exclusion, and lack of compassion that still persist within academia and wider society.

There are many questions that University of Cambridge have to answer. I was shocked to read this article by Byline Times raising serious concerns about the safeguarding of students and foreign influence at Cambridge University. Why is the Office of Students and the UK Government not investigating the University of Cambridge?

I am an opponent of racism in science and academia. It is sad fact that Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students are suffering racial discrimination in silence for many years in UK universities. There is a huge pressure to hide racial discrimination, bullying, harassment under the carpet and silence colleagues who raise these issues. I am grateful to the International Science Council for giving me the courage to share about racial discrimination that I had to suffer over 10 years during my early career at a UK university. I decided to share my experience so that in future colleagues and students don?t suffer racism. I strongly believe that there needs to be a thorough investigation into the institutional failure of duty of care at Cambridge University, as well as the role of the press in the distress experienced by Professor Arday. There is an urgent need for lessons to be learned, those responsible to be held accountable, and meaningful changes to be made across UK universities to help ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again. I have written to the UK Government and the Office for Students regarding these concerns. I sincerely hope that this will lead to stronger and more effective anti-racism action across UK higher education.

I have been working against racism throughout my life, and I have faced many difficulties as a result. Following the circulation of the Open Letter calling for stronger action on anti-racism in UK universities, I am already seeing some individuals?including in an academic mailing list?using various tactics to silence or discourage me. I find this deeply concerning and disheartening.

At the same time, I am very grateful for the support I have received from colleagues around the world, including many people whom I have never met. Their solidarity has meant a great deal to me, particularly at a time when I feel tired and, at times, helpless.

For colleagues in HE leadership who are considering what action might be taken in the wake of the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday, may I suggest taking a look at the Universities UK report?

Published in 2020 and led by Professor David Richardson, the report was the culmination of many months of examining evidence of racial harassment in UK higher education, hearing from people with direct experience, and considering the wider cultural context of the sector.

The report contains a number of clear and powerful recommendations for universities and higher education institutions. I would encourage us all to consider how well our own universities are performing against these recommendations and, importantly, what further action is needed.

Financial pressures cannot be a reason for inaction. If anything, they make it even more important that we address systemic issues and make the necessary changes to create safer, more inclusive and equitable university environments.

I commend the report and its recommendations to you. Let us work together, in solidarity, to galvanise meaningful and lasting change across UK higher education.
