Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Ethical Data Initiative team, I would like to invite you to the Ethical Data Initiative Stakeholder Forum: Framing the Future of the Global Research Commons on Monday 5th October 2026, 14h00 - 17h00 BST.
As data-driven research reshapes global science, industry, and governance, a critical question remains: how do we ensure that the infrastructures we build are both technologically robust and socially fair?
To address this challenge, the Ethical Data Initiative (EDI), in collaboration with the University of Exeter and the Technical University of Munich, are hosting a Stakeholder Forum on the afternoon of Monday 5th October, preceding the Research Data Alliance's 27th Plenary meeting (RDA P27) which runs from 6th to 8th October in London.
The event will begin with a minute of silence to honour and remember Professor Jason Arday. We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday. Professor Arday was a powerful voice for equality and inclusion, and, importantly, someone who genuinely cared about creating opportunities for others. His leadership and commitment to widening participation and challenging inequalities in higher education made a lasting impact far beyond academia.

The afternoon features two complementary panel discussions: the first examines the governance of data sharing to ensure research commons remain inclusive and equitable, while the second explores the practical challenges of reconciling complex management principles such as FAIR, CARE, and TRUST. Together, these sessions provide a strategic roadmap for moving beyond theory to build robust, socially responsible data infrastructures.
This pre-plenary event will unite leading global voices in research governance, international funding, and data policy to bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and ethical stewardship.
In-person attendance is limited (please register asap), but online participation is open to all through the Stakeholder Forum registration page.

Best wishes,
Suchith (on behalf of the EDI Team)
