> Dear all,
>
> We are very excited to announce the P2F Global Ocean Circulation Model Spin-Up Competition organised by Henk Dijkstra and Valérian Jacques-Dumas.
>
> The P2F Global Ocean Circulation Model Spin-Up Competition is organised as part of the Past to Future (P2F) project, which aims to deepen our understanding of past climate variability and use that knowledge to strengthen confidence in future climate projections. More efficient model spin-up lowers the computational cost of the long simulations needed to investigate past climate states and evaluate model performance across different periods.
>
> This spin-up competition compares numerical methods for bringing a global ocean model to equilibrium when it is available only as a time-forward black box. Entrants are given a routine that steps the full ocean state forward by a fixed time step, and must find a state that satisfies the equilibrium condition using as few computational resources as possible.
>
> All information on the competition and the protocol can be found on this page [link <https://past2future.org/2026/09/11/ocean-model-spin-up-competition/>].
>
> Why take part
> The organizers Prof. Henk A. Dijkstra and Dr. Valérian Jacques-Dumas will lead a joint paper with all participants, comparing the different approaches to ocean model spin-up and the performance of each method—a co-authorship opportunity for every team that submits a reproducible entry. Intermediate results will be discussed at the ClimTip/P2F joint meeting in Potsdam (8–11 February 2027), and results will be presented at a dedicated session at EGU 2027 (5–9 April 2027). Beyond eternal glory, the winning team can look forward to a special reward at the EGU session.
>
> Interested in joining the competition?
> Please let us know before the 1st of November 2026, if you are planning to participate.
> Deadline for final submission (by email to p2f at uu.nl <mailto:p2f at uu.nl>): March 1, 2027
>
> Please feel free to circulate this email within your network.
>
> Warm regards,
