I usually don’t love off-topic posts, so I wondered, is it really off topic, and if so, how much?</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I’m a computational scientist. A domain scientist uses GIS to study their field, and I help domain scientists with things like coding and use of GIS software applications. In order to do that effectively, I have to have (or gain) basic knowledge of their field. I looked at Suchith’s links in the signature, and it does look like this is very relevant to his domain science.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">In XSEDE ECSS (consulting wing of the previous contract for NSF computing resources) there was something they called ‘NIP’, or ‘Novel and Innovative Projects’. That means people using advanced computing for nontraditional fields. It was very useful to have an awareness of these fields, so I can provide better support, and also look for ways for outreach and inclusion of nontraditional HPC users.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">A quick Google search turned up a ton of religion and violence related GIS applications.
