Jim,
Wouldn't it seem more prudent to have a builder script instead that pulled from online sources, if needed at all of course I don't think it's a big deal to remove those archive files, especially since these DVDs are such short lived creatures, and they are all about running the demo from the DVD, at least initially. The DVDs are now coming out about every 6 months or so as well. The less to worry about keeping in sync with previous versions of the package, the better (IMO).
I think there was only a Linux installer script in the last DVD for GeoMoose, right?

Subject: [geomoose-psc] OSGeo Live Demo
All,
I've got a preliminary version of GeoMoose 2.6.1 packaged for OSGeo Live. Currently this is based off of geomoose-nightly.tar.gz. (I copied geomoose-nightly.tar.gz to geomoose-2.6.1-livedemo.tar.gz so it wouldn't change unexpectedly.)
The actual install for 2.6 is much easier than 2.4 (local_settings.ini and temp_directory.map needed to be updated).
I have also updated/merged the overview and quickstart docs from GeoMoose 2.6 into OSGeo Live.
One thought is it would be nice to reduce the footprint of GeoMoose on the disk. I'm wondering what people would think about removing the .zip and .tar.gz files in the htdocs/libs directory to save 26MiB on the disk. (Or is it important to us that people can rebuild GeoMoose on the LiveDVD?)
Jim
