Disredard my last about the displaying of wms layers

I got a code issue to address, when I try to load a .tif, it loads the 
placeholder but does not display. (but the topo sheets for the Minn 
demo load just fine).
I think I know where the problem is and if it is what I think, It may 
fix the other problem as well,
