Clinton,

I have used .sid's before directly in GeoMOOSE/MapServer. Dan is right
they are support with the MS4W package.

I also use .ecw files quite a bit and found they perform slightly
better. You still can't beat the performance of tiled imagery and
building overviews if you have the time and disk space to deal with
them. here's a snipit of the mapfile. Also you should look at this page
http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/raster_data and
http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/optimizeraster

   #LAYER
   # NAME ortho
   # TYPE RASTER
   # DATA wasecacc.sid
   # OFFSITE 0 0 0
   # STATUS DEFAULT
  #END

-Hope that helps,
Brian

If I remember correctly, MS4W has built in support for SID's.

http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/raster_data

This should get you started, I believe other folks (I'm pretty sure City
of Saint Louis Park and some one else) are using SID and could possibly
share a mapfile with you.

Subject: [Geomoose-users] SID Files

Hi,

I have several web applications that I have created using Geomoose. I
would like to know how to add aerial photos to my web maps. I have
severl SID files that are about 3 gigabits. I need to know what the
steps and programs are that can get me started. I have access to ARCGIS
and I can cut up the pictures using that program, but I need to know if
there is a simpler way. Thanks.
