Set the variable to "MI" for miles instead of "M" for meters in your configuration.js file.

On a previous install of GM I got the scalebar switched over to miles.  This time I'm missing something...

My coordinate system is UTM, I've changed values in scalebar.map to MILES.  The scalebar displays with "mi" but the measures are still all in meter.

So where's the final tweak?
