In query.php or itemquery.php, try commenting out the error suppression, like this:

#error_reporting(E_ERROR | E_PARSE);

That might give some further information.  Also in Firebug, check the param values being sent to make sure they look right.  Maybe the extent is wrong? - speaking from frustrating experience here.
