Jim,
The general workflow for editing the geometry is:
1. Click the Identify button and click the feature.
2. If found, the feature will be colored orange. Click it again to edit
the geometry.
3. The feature is now colored blue with orange circles on the vertices
(and slightly faded orange circles on the line midpoints).
4. Click and drag the orange circles to change the positions of the
vertices.
