Hi all,
I've started working with Vivien and Ariel at GFDRR for the next
several months, and one of the projects Im working on is to prepare a
Mentoring Guide that we will use with folks who have programming
experience, but are new to GeoNode or to Open Source development in
general. It is intended as a series of modules that can be arranged
into a track of study based on the participants current knowledge and
the tools they need to use to execute a project successfully in
consultation with a mentor. It will also include modules on other
related tools like QGIS, OpenStreetMap and OpenDataKit.

and the GeoNode specific sections

Each module is setup with 4 items.
* Background info on why this particular tool or technique is important
* Goals/Objectives/Outcomes
* A set of reference links to guide the Mentee on their way to learn
on their own
* A set of "Measures of Success" that the Mentor can use to evaluate
their progress
I'm just getting going on this project, but its now in good enough
shape that I would like to share it with all of you to get your
feedback. The outline and tracks of study are complete, but I've only
written the top sections on basic unix tools, git/github and open
source etiquette and the sections on GeoNode itself (but not all the
background material above).
I'd be very grateful for any and all feedback on the structure, the
content or the idea itself. Te doc is open for editing and commenting.
Also feel free to just start adding links or material as you have the
time and capacity to do so.
The intent is to turn this into a website that is easy to navigate and
can eventually be used for something like a MOOC.
Also, if any of you are interested in being a mentor in this program,
let myself or Vivien know.
Thanks in advance!
Jeff
