[GeoNode-users] GeoGig plugin status?

Dear all,
currently the GeoGig plugin and stuff is not part of the official GeoServer
distribution ans also the project (as far as I know) is owned and
maintained by Boundlessgeo.

Now, the thing is: if things remain like this the GeoNode releasing and
branching will be always somehow constrained by bothering someone at
Baoundless to do another branch/release of GeoGig for GeoNode. Moreover it
would be better, IMHO, to avoid such kind of dependencies on an opendource
project like GeoNode.

My question is, is there someone on the community using the GeoGig plugin
actively? What is exactly the history and background of such plugin? Any
idea/requirement on how to proceed with this and solve the issue?
