Is my understanding correct in that Geonode does not track the latest
version of Geoserver.

If so, why is that the case or alternatively is there a roadmap that shows
the relationship between Geonode and Geoserver releases.

Hi Zizi,

The stable version of GeoNode will be released with GeoServer 2.9.x while master is waiting for the merge of this branch for GeoServer 2.10.x. Once this will happen eventually it could be back ported to the stable release.

What’s your use case to have the last release which got out just few days ago?
I want to replace our WMS basemap with vector tiles.
I am more than happy to wait for GeoServer 2.11.0 to be part of GeoNode.
In general geoserver has an ecosystem of pluggable modules which are released publicly for stable versions or can be built on our own. Geonode relies on a snapshot version of geoserver regardless of its version so basically you should achieve that by compiling
the vector tile module from the geoserver source code. Just make sure to check-out the branch corresponding to the current version deployed with geonode.

Please also note that vector tiles are not yet supported by the web mapping component within geonode.

Hope this helps

Still trying to solve this problem. Though the culprit could be malformed
.mo files. Deleted and created the .mo files again, using 'geonode
compilemessages'. But still, no luck. When I use English as the site
language, the number of layers in the first page says 'No layers'. If I
change to any other language, I get the correct number of layer counts.
