Would this test show your problem ? I mean, should second
numinteriorrings give a different number from first ? (table
daves has been loaded with the single geom you sent)
select postgis_full_version();
select numinteriorrings(geom) from daves;
select numinteriorrings(buffer(geom,0)) from daves;
This are my results:
POSTGIS="1.1.0CVS" GEOS="2.1.3" PROJ="Rel. 4.4.8, 3 May 2004" USE_STATS DBPROC="0.3.1" RELPROC="0.3.1"

POSTGIS="1.0.3" GEOS="3.0.0" PROJ="Rel. 4.4.8, 3 May 2004" USE_STATS DBPROC="0.3.0" RELPROC="0.3.0"

POSTGIS="1.1.0CVS" JTS="1.7.0" PROJ="Rel. 4.4.8, 3 May 2004" USE_STATS DBPROC="0.3.1" RELPROC="0.3.1"
