Paul,

The 3.0.1-1, and 3.0.1-2 would normally indicate particular packaging
attempts against a fixed 3.0.1 source tarball.  So the "dash series" is
really naming reserved for packagers (Debian, OSGeo4W, etc) rather than
source releases from the projects.
